What isn't covered

Every policy has its limits. These are the main things a cat policy doesn't cover, so there are no surprises if you need to claim.

  • Pre-existing conditions, unless your pet has had no veterinary treatment or advice for that condition for any continuous 24-month period, under our 2 year rule.
  • Illness in the first 14 days and injuries in the first 48 hours of a new policy, known as the waiting period.
  • Routine, preventative or elective treatment, such as vaccinations, teeth cleaning, neutering or spaying, grooming and nail clipping.
  • Pregnancy, breeding and delivery, and any complications arising from them.
  • Treatment or medication that has not been prescribed or recommended by a vet.
  • Anything above the cover limits set out in the table of benefits.

This is a summary of the main exclusions, not a full list. The complete terms, limits and exclusions, including the age limits that apply when a policy first starts, are set out in the policy wording.

Your pet insurance excess

The amount that affects both the premium you pay and how much you'll need to contribute if you make a claim.

  • Your policy includes a fixed excess, payable per condition, per policy year.
  • Once your cat turns 7, a co-payment of 15% will also apply, paid by you each time you make a claim, in addition to your standard excess.
  • Make sure you understand the excesses when you get a quote or start a new policy. You'll find all the information you need in the policy wording.

Flexible policy benefits

  • Switching from another provider? If you can prove your previous cover runs right up to your policy start date, your pet enjoys immediate cover, with no waiting period for injuries or illnesses.
  • Spread the cost of your policy, pay monthly by Direct Debit. It doesn't cost you more.
  • Cover for repeat or emergency treatment when travelling with your pet abroad, as long as you're travelling in line with government guidelines. Check the latest government advice on taking your pet abroad before you plan your trip.

Monetary limits, excesses, conditions and exclusions apply. See the policy wording for full details.
