How multi-pet cover works

Adding another pet to your policy takes minutes, and every pet is managed in one place.

1

Add each pet to your quote

Tell us about every dog or cat you'd like to cover. You can add up to 6 pets to one household policy.

2

Choose cover for each one

Set the level of cover individually per pet, so an older dog and a young kitten can each get exactly what they need.

3

Manage everyone together

Every pet sits on the same household policy, so there's a single set of documents to keep track of.

Why cover every pet with us

All the same benefits as our standard cover, just spread across every pet in the household.

Lifetime cover for every pet

Each pet gets lifetime cover, so ongoing conditions stay covered year after year, as long as you renew without a break and continue to meet the policy terms.

Claims paid direct to your vet

For any pet on the policy, your vet can often claim directly, so you're not left covering the bill upfront.

Vet Assist for every pet

24/7 access to qualified vet nurses and vets is included for each pet on the policy, at no extra cost.

One household policy for your dogs and cats

Cover every dog and cat you own on a single household policy, with the level of cover set individually for each one and everything managed in one place. Get a quote for your first pet, then add the others at the same time.

Limits shown are per pet, per condition, per year. Exclusions, conditions and excesses may apply. For the full table of cover limits and any extra cover conditions, check the policy wording.

Third party liability cover, which applies to dogs, is set at policy level. The £1,000,000 limit is the most we will pay per incident across the whole policy, whether you have one dog or several, rather than a separate limit for each dog.

What isn't covered

Every policy has its limits. These are the main things a multi-pet policy doesn't cover, so there are no surprises if you need to claim.

  • Pre-existing conditions that have needed veterinary treatment or advice in the previous 24 months.
  • Illness in the first 14 days and injuries in the first 48 hours of a new policy, known as the waiting period.
  • Routine, preventative or elective treatment, such as vaccinations, teeth cleaning, neutering or spaying, grooming and nail clipping.
  • Pregnancy, breeding and delivery, and any complications arising from them.
  • Treatment or medication that has not been prescribed or recommended by a vet.
  • Anything above the cover limits set out in the table of benefits.

If you switch to Select & Protect Pet Insurance from another provider and can prove your previous cover runs up to the policy start date, your pet enjoys immediate cover, including protection against injuries within the first 48 hours and illnesses arising in the first 14 days.

This is a summary of the main exclusions, not a full list. The complete terms, limits and exclusions, including the age limits that apply when a policy first starts and the dog breeds we cannot cover, are set out in the policy wording.

Multi-pet insurance FAQs

The questions we're asked most about covering more than one pet.

How many pets can I add to one policy?

You can cover up to 6 pets on a single household policy, mixing dogs and cats as needed.

Does every pet need the same level of cover?

No. You choose the level of cover for each pet individually, so you can match cover to what each one actually needs.

Do all my pets renew on the same date?

Each pet's renewal date relates to the date that pet was added to your policy, so pets added at different times may renew at different times. They all sit on the same household policy, so you manage everything in one place rather than across several separate policies.

Can I add a pet to my policy later?

Yes, you can add another pet at any time, not just at renewal. Contact our team and we'll add them to your updated policy.

If I claim on one pet, does it affect the others?

No, each pet's cover and claims history are tracked separately, even though they sit on the same household policy.
